Devices listed separately
Problem
The TCM and NMEA2000 WiFi Gateway appear as separate devices in the app, not grouped under one heading. Cruise is unavailable.
Solution
The devices are not linked. Out of the box each unit is its own Wi-Fi access point. They must be on the same Wi-Fi network before the TCM can use gateway speed data.
Follow Linking Accutroll Devices. Prefer the happy path in the install video, or recover manually if you tapped Skip.
Linked, but no speed panel
Problem
The TCM and gateway are grouped under one heading (you can rename that heading, for example to your boat name), but the speed panel still does not appear at the bottom of the TCM user interface.
Explanation
Grouping means the devices are on the same network. That is not enough for speed. Cruise also requires the TCM NMEA 2000 gateway client.
Solution
- Tap the TCM tile.
- Open Settings → NMEA 2000 Gateway settings.
- Enable the client.
- Tap Scan, tap the gateway address, then Apply.
- Leave port 2000.
The speed panel does not show until the client is enabled. Full steps: Linking Accutroll Devices.
No speed sources discovered
Problem
The app finds no speed sources, or Retry still returns none.
Solution
- Power the NMEA2000 backbone and confirm the gateway’s red LED is on.
- Confirm two terminating resistors are installed on the extreme ends of the backbone. See Building an NMEA2000 Backbone.
- If you use an MFD as a speed source, wait until it is fully booted, then tap Retry.
- Confirm a speed source is actually on the bus (MFD, GPS, autopilot, or paddle wheel sensor) and that the gateway is plugged into an available T.
Wrong speed source (STW vs SOG)
Problem
A speed value appears, but it is not the metric you want for cruise, or cruise does not track the way you expect.
Solution
In Settings → NMEA 2000 Gateway settings, set Speed source:
- Paddle wheel — speed through water (STW) from a paddle wheel sensor
- Speed over ground — GPS speed from an MFD, dedicated GPS, or autopilot
Choose the source that matches what is publishing on your backbone.
Gateway buried behind metal
Problem
The gateway is powered and linked, but Wi-Fi to the TCM is poor and speed feedback is unreliable.
Solution
The gateway pigtail is fairly short. If the unit sits buried behind electronics or heavy metal, use another drop cable as an extension and relocate the gateway for a clearer line of sight. Details: Building an NMEA2000 Backbone.
The Accutroll NMEA2000 Gateway uses 2.4GHz WiFi. If connectivity is poor, find a mounting location that improves signal strength. See the Installation Guide.
Last resort: factory reset both devices
Problem
Linking, client settings, and the backbone all look correct, but speed feedback still never appears.
Solution
Factory reset both the TCM and the gateway, then scan them into the app again and let the app complete linking.
See How to Factory Reset Accutroll Devices and Linking Accutroll Devices.
